Nick Lachey, former member of boy band 98 Degrees, revealed they were given a book outlining the age of consent in every single state during their early days on tour.
Lachey made the confession in the new ID documentary, “Boy Band Confidential,” produced by *NSYNC’s Joey Fatone. Lachey and his brother Drew Lachey, alongside Jeff Timmons and Justin Jeffre, made up the group, shooting to stardom in the ’90s and hitting the road on tour for the first time in 1999.
They were all between the ages of 21 and 24 years old at the time.
“This is going to sound super shady, but when we first went out,” Lachey said, “I remember our first tour, someone at the label gave us a book, and it was the age of consent in every state.”
He added: They “kept that book on the tour bus.”
Lachey also touched on the toughness of touring, and how it affected the band at the peak of their fame. He said it took a toll on their mental health, but that they felt they could not do anything about it.
“You’ll see a Bieber cancel a tour. You’ll see a Shawn Mendes cancel a tour because, ‘My mental health needs to come first.’ That was not an option when we were out there,” he said.
“You went out there and you did the show and you came back after the show and you broke down and you cried and you kicked a hole in the wall or you did whatever you had to do, but you didn’t bow out,” Lachey continued. “You worked so hard to get there, you couldn’t let your foot off the gas.”
98 Degrees released their first non-Christmas album in more than a decade last May. It is called “Full Circle” and includes updated versions of some of their biggest hits, including “Because of You,” “The Hardest Thing,” “I Do (Cherish You).”
