An NYPD captain was arrested after he punched and choked a man in his 60s who groped a teenager in Queens, police said.
Kai Bowen, 42 was charged Wednesday with assault, strangulation and harassment for allegedly throwing Mahadeo Narain, 67, to the ground before repeatedly slugging him in the face, kicking him in the leg and finally choking him during a dispute at a Queens home around 9:47 p.m., according to a criminal complaint.
Narain suffered lacerations to his face, red marks on his shoulder and bruising on his leg. EMS transported him to Jamaica Hospital where he was in stable condition.
Bowen, who joined the NYPD in 2008, has been a captain at the Community Affairs Bureau since October 2024, previously serving at the School Safety Division, Youth Strategies Division, 75th Precinct and 5th Precinct.
He was off duty during the incident.
The day before the assault, Narain was charged with sex abuse, forcible touching and endangering the welfare of a child for allegedly grabbing a 15-year-old girl’s chest and trying to kiss her on the lips, the complaint said.
The teen is believed to be Bowen’s relative, according to PIX11.
The NYPD captain was released following his arraignment in Queens Criminal Court. Bowen has been suspended without pay, PIX11 reported.
Following his arraignment, Narain was granted supervised release with an order of protection set against the teen.
