An NYPD officer was caught in an undercover sex sting, accused of trying to convince a person he thought was a 16-year-old girl to get naked on a video call, prosecutors said.
Christopher Torres Garcia, 36, a four-year member of the NYPD assigned to the 72nd Precinct in Brooklyn, was arrested in the Bronx Wednesday. He was charged with official misconduct, attempted inseminating of indecent material to a minor and attempted child endangerment.
Investigators with the NYPD’s Internal Affairs Bureau targeted him in a sting operation as part of an ongoing investigation, sources familiar with the case said.
Torres Garcia was introduced while on duty to an undercover cop posing as a 16-year-old girl on Aug. 5, and the two exchanged numbers, according to a criminal complaint.
On Aug. 18, during a video call, the undercover told Torres Garcia she was in the shower, and he asked her multiple times to show him her nude body, the complaint alleges.
Torres Garcia was arraigned in Brooklyn Criminal Court Wednesday and released without bail, with a return court date of Dec. 1. His defense lawyer, Daniel Servino, declined comment Thursday.
