An off-duty NYPD officer was arrested in Queens for pulling a gun on a man in front of the victim’s 12-year-old son and punching him in the face, breaking his nose, prosecutors said Tuesday.
Kyle Joseph, 30, confronted the victim just outside a residence on 173rd St. in St. Albans at about 2 a.m. Sunday, according to a criminal complaint.
He punched the man repeatedly, knocking him to the ground, then pulled a pistol out of his waistband and pointed it at the victim, the complaint alleges.
Though the complaint doesn’t specifically describe the weapon as his police-issue service weapon, it states Joseph surrendered his service weapon at the scene.
Joseph admitted he got into an argument, telling a responding officer, “I ended up punching him in the face,” according to the complaint.
His relationship to the man wasn’t immediately clear on Tuesday. A police spokesperson initially described the incident as domestic in nature.
Joseph joined the NYPD in October 2024, and is assigned to the 69th Precinct in Canarsie, Brooklyn. He’s charged with misdemeanor assault, harassment, menacing, endangering the welfare of a child and a firearms-related offense.
He was arraigned in Queens Criminal Court Sunday and released without bail.
Attempts to reach him and his attorney were unsuccessful Tuesday.
