Happy birthday, America! It’s going to be a hot one.

As Independence Day celebrations across North Texas begin, Saturday’s weather is expected to be hot and sunny, with a stray shower or thunderstorm in the east during the afternoon.

The National Weather Services Fort Worth office is forecasting a high of 95 degrees, and a low of 78 degrees. The heat index, or how hot it actually feels, is forecasted to be 103 degrees. Slight breezes are expected throughout the day.

The rest of the weekend is expected to have similar hot weather, with Sunday having higher levels of humidity.

The weather service recommends drinking a lot of water and finding shade when possible to prevent heat exhaustion or heat stroke, especially in the afternoon when the temperature is at its highest.

The CDC urges those planning to celebrate the Fourth of July to remember that alcohol can worsen dehydration. Drinking nine to thirteen cups of water a day to offset potential dehydration is recommended. According to the CDC, people should also regularly apply, and reapply, sunscreen throughout the day if they plan on spending time in the sun.
