Nearly two years after a July 4 shooting in Southwest Philadelphia left a teenager dead and eight others wounded, police on Wednesday identified the man they believe fired into the crowd, and they announced a $20,000 reward for information leading to his arrest and conviction.
Naseem Sills, 19, is wanted in connection with the 2024 attack, which unfolded shortly before 11:30 p.m. in the Kingsessing neighborhood, police said.
Investigators said the gunfire erupted on the 1900 block of South Salford Street, when a man opened fire from a passing SUV into a holiday gathering.
Maurice Quain, 19, was struck in the head and pronounced dead at the scene. Eight others — including a 14-year-old boy and a 24-year-old man — were injured after being hit by gunfire, according to police. Several parked vehicles were also struck. Investigators recovered 20 shell casings from the street.
The shooting was one of dozens over the last decade in Philadelphia in which five or more people were struck, reflecting what was at the time a sustained surge in gun violence. Homicides have since declined sharply, mirroring a broader national drop in violent crime.
Police are asking anyone with information about the shooting or Sills’ whereabouts to contact the Homicide Unit at 215-686-3334 or 215-686-3335, or submit a tip to 215-686-TIPS.
