Two people are dead after a massive fire tore through a Brooklyn apartment early Saturday, FDNY officials said.
The fire broke out on the second floor inside the three-story Nostrand Ave. building near Beverly Road in East Flatbush at about 6:50 a.m.
Responding firefighters pulled four tenants from the burning building.
Two of the tenants died at the scene, FDNY officials said. The other two were taken to area hospitals with serious, but not life-threatening injuries.
The fire was extinguished at about 7:40 a.m.
The FDNY Fire Marshal was trying to determine what sparked the fire.
Saturday’s blaze comes as the city combats a massive increase in fatal fires this year.
As of Monday, 46 people have died in fires this year — a 64% jump from the 28 deaths logged last year, officials said.
The cause range the gamut from electrical fires to accidents, to arson, officials said.
