A woman was arrested late last month after police say she faked a food delivery to shoot a man more than a dozen times at his Red Bird home

Marquita Rice, 31, was detained on May 26 in Wake Forest, N.C., where she faces a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, according to Wake County jail records. She remained in custody Friday, pending extradition to Dallas County.

Gunfire erupted shortly after 4 p.m. March 1 in the 1800 block of Sedona Lane, near Martin D. Love Freeway. Just before shots were fired, police said surveillance video showed the victim, whose name was not publicly released, received a food delivery he had not requested, luring him outside.

A detective told KDFW-TV (Channel 4) the man was shot 18 times before Rice fled in a silver SUV.

The man was hospitalized in critical condition, but survived.

It was not immediately clear how Rice and the man knew one another, but jail records show Rice’s charge was categorized as “family violence.”
