Subway shenanigans continued in South Brooklyn Sunday, with officials seeking two youths caught having snuck into the subterranean Church Ave. yard on the F line.
The alleged trespass took place shortly after 3 p.m. Sunday. Police said an MTA transit worker went to check on a subway parked in the yard — a small set of so-called “pocket tracks” nestled between the Church Ave. station and the Ditmas Ave. station on the Culver Line.
The transit worker spotted three unauthorized people on the train, according to a source familiar with the investigation, described as “appearing young.” The trio then fled through an emergency exit.
The train was later found to have been moved approximately 180 feet — three car lengths — from where it had been parked.
An NYPD spokesperson said the incident was still under investigation, while an MTA flack expressed confidence in the system’s surveillance system.
“While we will not comment on an active investigation, like the rest of the transit system the entire area involved has security cameras,” MTA Spokesperson Laura Cala-Rauch told the Daily News in a statement. “We’re confident the NYPD will apprehend those who engage in this type of reckless and dangerous behavior.”
The break-in comes a week after another yard was burglarized within the confines of the 66th precinct.
Sources tell the Daily News that eight teenagers were spotted around 6 p.m. last Monday at the 38th St. Yard in Sunset Park, masked and wearing all black. At least four of them were observed going through MTA SUVs parked near the yard gate, stealing high-visibility vests and other pieces of transit equipment.
All eight fled the scene when approached, sources say.
An hour later, four stops away at the 55th St. stop of the D train, at least two people were involved in the theft of a train key from a NYC Transit conductor. As reported by The News, the conductor reported that an unknown perpetrator attempted to get into the conductor’s cab while the train was in the 55th St. station in Borough Park. As the transit worker was fending off ththe tresspasser, another person on the platform reached into the cab window and took a train-door key.
The next day, three masked teens were arrested for trying to break into the conductors cab on an F train as it entered the Bay Parkway station in Midwood.
