Two men and a woman were arrested in connection with the assault and stabbing that occurred earlier this month at Atlantic City’s Showboat Resort.
Kiandre Harris, 31, Quheem Whitehead, 38, and Marquita Wilson, 41, were charged with aggravated assault in connection with the incident that left Whitehead and another 38-year-old woman, who has not been identified, injured on April 5, according to the Atlantic City Police Department.
Whitehead and Wilson were taken into custody in Newark, N.J., where they both reside, on Thursday, and Harris, who is from Glen Burnie, Md., was arrested in Maryland Wednesday.
“Our officers and detectives worked tirelessly to quickly identify and charge those responsible for this incident,” said Atlantic City Police Chief James Sarkos. “Through strong collaboration with the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Forces, the suspects were tracked down and brought to justice.”
Police responded to the Showboat Resort at 801 Boardwalk at 10:37 p.m. on April 5 due to reports of a stabbing. A 38-year-old woman from Severn, Md., had been assaulted after an argument inside a restaurant at the Showboat, police said.
An investigation revealed that Whitehead allegedly chased the 38-year-old victim after the verbal argument and struck her several times, causing her to fall. Wilson then kicked the victim’s face, police said.
While Whitehead assaulted the victim, police say, Harris stabbed Whitehead twice in the back with a pocketknife. Harris was also charged with weapons offenses.
The woman and Whitehead were transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
Harris, Whitehead, and Wilson will be transported to the Atlantic County Justice Facility to await trial, according to police.
A representative from the Showboat said incidents like this are not common at Atlantic City resorts.
“This is a very rare and isolated occurrence, which we are simply referring to the Atlantic City police,“ the spokesperson said after the incident. ”The Showboat takes security extremely seriously.”
