Officers responded to a shooting in the 4600 block of the North Freeway service road on April 30 about 2:34 p.m., the report said.

Investigators found two male drivers, one of which was Martinez, who were believed to have been involved in a confrontation while traveling northbound on Interstate 35.

Both drivers exited the freeway at Meacham Boulevard before the unidentified gunman shot Martinez at the traffic light.

Officers and fire crews arrived on the scene and Martinez was taken to John Peter Smith Hospital, where he later died. The suspect was detained to speak with homicide detectives per protocol.

As of Tuesday afternoon, police said no charges have been filed against the alleged shooter. Based on the incident report, detectives have described the shooting as “justifiable homicide.”

The case will be presented to the Tarrant County district attorney’s office before a final decision is reached, police said.
