A 26-year-old man has turned himself in to police in connection with the killing of a woman in West Philadelphia in April.

Mustafa King surrendered to authorities Thursday, the Philadelphia Police Department said. King’s surrender marks the third arrest in the killing of Imani Ringgold, who was gunned down near 60th and Market Streets the afternoon of April 7. Charges against King were pending Thursday evening, police said.

Ringgold, 20, was walking down the street, holding a box of pizza, and speaking to her grandmother on the phone before she was shot. Around 6:20 p.m., a group of gunmen fired shots in her direction, striking her a number of times.

Ringgold died a short time later at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center. Investigators said the shooters were firing at a group of men Ringgold was walking past, and she was caught in the crossfire.

Authorities have said the shooting was likely in retaliation for a quintuple shooting that had left two men dead the week before, which itself came as part of an escalating gang feud in the area to which Ringgold was not connected.

Last month, Hamza Ruley, 24, was arrested at his home in Lansdowne in connection with Ringgold’s death, and was expected to face murder and other related charges. Days after Ruley’s arrest, U.S. marshals arrested Zaire Manning, 21, in Germantown in connection with Ringgold’s killing, and he was expected to face similar charges.

Ringgold was working as a home health aide when she was killed — a job she had held for only a few days at the time. Days before her death, Ringgold had also been accepted to the Community College of Philadelphia, where she planned to study HVAC and electrical work starting in the fall semester.

When the shots rang out, Ringgold was on the phone with her grandmother, Dietra Bynum, with whom she lived in Delaware County. Bynum said that she heard cracks of gunfire burst through the phone’s speaker.

King had been wanted since mid-April. Detectives are still working to identify a fourth person involved with the killing.
