Man run over by a SUV while lying in Manhattan street dies month after crash

A 58-year-old man run over by a Honda SUV as he lay in the middle of a street in midtown Manhattan a month ago has died, police said Saturday.

Weeks after the May 16 crash, cops were still looking to question the Honda driver who left the scene without stopping. They are also still trying to determine why the victim, Matthew Meisel, was lying in the road in the first place, officials said.

Police said Meisel was “lying in the roadway for unknown reasons” on 12th Ave. near W. 55th St. in Hell’s Kitchen at about 6:30 p.m. when the Honda rolled by, striking him, cops said.

The incident happened steps away from New York’s Department of Sanitation facility on 12th Ave. and the West Side Highway.

EMS rushed Meisel to Mount Sinai West, where he died of his injuries on June 13, cops said.

Meisel lived in Hartsdale, NY, in Westchester County, about 25 miles from where the fatal accident took place.

No arrests have been made.
