A 4-year-old child was found dead at a home in North Jersey on Tuesday afternoon, according to state police.
The child has not been publicly identified, and their cause and manner of death remain unclear, the Sussex County Prosecutor’s Office said.
State police responded to a “medical assist” call at a home in Wantage Township, about 45 miles northwest of Central Park, around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, NJ.com reported. The child was found unresponsive at the scene and later pronounced dead from their injuries.
Cops did not reveal what injuries the child was suffering, but the county prosecutor is assisting state police in the investigation. No further details of the incident were released.
The 4-year-old’s death is one of several deadly incidents involving toddlers in New Jersey in recent months.
In a similarly confounding case, a 2-year-old boy was found dead at home in Egg Harbor Township, just inland from Atlantic City, on Oct. 14, police said. Cops responded to that scene to find the toddler unresponsive, and the boy was later pronounced dead. His identity was not released, but the county prosecutor was also investigating that incident.
On Nov. 15, a 2-year-old boy fell 20 stories to his death from an apartment building in Newark, authorities said. The boy was not identified, but cops said foul play was not suspected in that case.
