“Long Island Lolita” Amy Fisher’s eldest son — who she shares with a retired New York Police Department officer — is facing criminal charges after South Florida authorities say he killed his pet cat through “involuntary heat exposure,” which could mean he microwaved the helpless creature.
Brett Anthony Bellera, 25, and his girlfriend Jennifer Armenti, 36, have been charged with animal cruelty in the Dec. 2024 death of their cat in Fort Lauderdale, Reaper, TMZ reports.
The allegedly heartless couple was charged last month after a friend tipped off Broward County Animal Care on Dec. 15, 2024 about their recently deceased pet, according to arrest affidavits viewed by Local10.com.
Poor Reaper suffered “severe pain” before succumbing to “involuntary heat exposure,” which occurred through microwave radiation, submergence in hot water or exposure to hot water vapor, according to the forensic necropsy performed by the American Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. It’s unclear exactly which heinous method was used.
Armenti claimed to Miramar authorities that she’d awoken to find Reaper dead in the bathroom, though Animal Care officials actually discovered his remains inside a laundry basket on the back patio.
Bellera — who attributed Reaper’s death to possible consumption of cleaning products — was already in custody on other charges at the time he was charged in the case. Armenti was subsequently arrested on June 17.
Bellera comes from a notorious lineage, as one of the sons of Fisher, 51, and ex-husband Louis Bellera, a retired NYPD cop.
Merrick native Fisher was just 17 in May 1992, when Nassau County authorities arrested her for the attempted murder of Mary Jo Buttafuoco, who she shot in the head.
When she was 16, Fisher shot the 37-year-old mother of two in the doorway of the Buttafuoco home in Massapequa. At the time the teen was having an affair with then 38-year-old Joey Buttafuoco, the victim’s husband.
Fisher was given the headline-making “Long Island Lolita” moniker in light of the incident and was charged with attempted murder. Joey ended up serving four months for statutory rape.
Fisher pleaded guilty to a lesser charge or reckless assault and served seven years behind bars, a sentence reduced with the help of Mary Jo’s advocacy. She was released in May 1999, after which, she met Bellera in an online chat room, when she was 26 and he 51.
In 2002, Fisher’s lawyer Bruce Barket told the Daily News his client, then under parole supervision, had an “ordinary office job” on the Island.
She and Bellera welcomed two more children and divorced in 2015, though not before Fisher’s stint in adult entertainment, from 2007 to 2011.
