Community spirit marched down La Habra Boulevard Saturday morning as the annual Corn Festival parade kicked off a day of fun.

The three-day festival organized by the La Habra Host Lions is in its 77th year. It continues Sunday with carnival rides, games, shopping and lots of entertainment in the festival area at El Centro-Lions Park. Oh, and thousands of ears of corn are cooked over the weekend, with community groups also selling lots of other food.

The Lions Club made some tweaks to this year’s Corn Festival in hopes of turning around waning interest and drawing larger crowds. Included among the changes were more grand marshals for Saturday’s parade and a drumline competition at its conclusion.

There are also new rides and a weekend-long raffle with prizes including the big prize, a three-day cruise to Ensenada plus $2,000 in cash.
