A man was arrested Wednesday for stabbing an MTA maintenance worker during an argument at the Times Square subway station in Manhattan, police said.
Jhon Hurtado Olmos, 30, was charged with assault after surrendering himself for the Aug. 24 attack, cops said.
NYC Transit President Demetrius Crichlow called the attack “reprehensible” and demanded Olmos face the “maximum consequences under the law.”
“Employees should always return home in the same condition as when they came to work,” Crichlow said in a statement.
The victim, also 30, was cleaning the No. 1 train platform at the Midtown station when the attacker stormed up to him around 10:30 p.m., police said.
The stranger started an argument with the worker that quickly turned physical and ended when the attacker drew a sharp object and stabbed the victim in his left arm, according to law enforcement.
The attacker fled the station on a Brooklyn-bound No. 1 train that had just entered the station, cops said.
Medics rushed the transit worker to Bellevue Hospital, where he was expected to recover.
The NYPD released surveillance images of the suspect three days after the attack and asked the public’s help in tracking him down.
This is Olmos’ first arrest in New York City, cops said. His arraignment in Manhattan Criminal Court was pending Wednesday.
