Philadelphia Archbishop Nelson J. Pérez said he feels “just fine” after fainting during a Thursday morning Mass at the Cathedral Basilica of SS. Peter and Paul in Center City.

In a statement posted Thursday afternoon on social media, Pérez said he “felt very lightheaded during the Chrism Mass today and left the altar. Doctors and EMS personnel evaluated me at the Cathedral. My vital signs are normal and I feel just fine.”

The 64-year-old Pérez added: “I’m grateful for their help and your concern. A Blessed Triduum to you all!”

NBC10 showed video from the livestream of the Mass showing Pérez falling over slightly but being held up by others. NBC10 said he also fainted a second time.

Pérez became the Archbishop of Philadelphia in 2020.
