A 14-year-old boy and two men were shot near the 56th Street SEPTA station in West Philadelphia Sunday night.
The triple shooting occurred at 6:44 p.m. while the three were about to walk up the stairs to the Market-Frankford Line platform on the 5600 block of Market Street, Philadelphia Police Department Inspector D. F. Pace told reporters at the scene.
It was not clear whether all three shooting victims knew each other. “But it does appear that the 14-year-old was in the company of one of those 20-something-year-old men,” Pace said shortly after Sunday’s shooting.
Police said they do not know whom the shooter was targeting.
The teen was shot twice in the left arm and twice in the right thigh, and was transported to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where he was placed in stable condition. A 25-year-old man, who was shot once in the right arm and twice in the back, was also listed in stable condition at Penn Presbyterian.
A third man, 26, was shot five times throughout his body and was in critical condition at Penn Presbyterian, police said.
SEPTA closed 56th Street Station, with El trains bypassing, throughout Sunday night’s investigation. The station reopened Monday morning. The shooting did not happen within the SEPTA station, said spokesperson Andrew Busch. However, one man was struck while in the station vestibule on the ground level, he said. He then fled up the stairs to the 56th Street platform, where he collapsed.
“All of the shell casings were found on the street, and in checking our surveillance video and gathering information at the scene, our police didn’t find any evidence that shots were fired within the station.”
No weapon has been recovered, and no arrests have been made. At the time of publishing, police had not shared any descriptions of suspects.
