‘The Messenger’ and ‘Punk AF’ on stage at the Chance

The Chance Theater’s production of “The Messenger” makes its West Coast premiere on the theater’s Cripe Stage on April 4 at 8 p.m., with performances scheduled through April 19.

Written by Chance Theater’s 2016 Resident Playwright Jenny Connell Davis, “The Messenger” is a compelling new play inspired by the real-life testimony of Hungarian Holocaust survivor, Georgia Gabor. The piece chronicles the stories of four women across generations from 1969 to 2020 who confront injustice and personal struggles of speaking out or remaining silent.

Resident Artist Katie Chidester directs, and the production features an all-women cast headed by Megan Sigler, with Rori Flynn and Kallie Pong both making their Chance Theater debut.

Another exciting event scheduled at the Chance Theater is a one-night-only staged reading of “Punk AF,” at 7:30 p.m. on April 8 on the Cripe Stage.

This special production is part of the theater’s “On the Radar” New Works Staged Reading Series, which showcases innovative and impactful works in progress. “Punk AF” is written by 2018 Resident Playwright Joanna Garner and directed by Kari Hayter. It depicts a 40-year-old career woman’s quest to regain the free expression of her teen years by reuniting her high school all-girl punk band during a girl’s reunion weekend.
