Actor and activist Andrew Shue and immigration attorney Marilee Fiebig are engaged, three years after connecting in the wake of their exes’ scandalous hookup and firing from ABC’s “Good Morning America.”

“I don’t know how it happened, but there’s a happy ending,” Shue told People in revealing they’ve been betrothed since May.

The new chapter came about only after deep introspection that involved growing “through a lot of pain and a lot of struggle and a lot of humility” amid his divorce from Amy Robach, the “Melrose Place” alum and onetime aspiring pro soccer player told the magazine.

“I had to accept my own part in marriage not working out for me and in not understanding myself well enough and not understanding what matters in a relationship well enough to find the right person for me, and that has been an extraordinary gift,” Shue said. “Again, I don’t know how it happened, but I can say I’m grateful.”

That marriage and its dissolution became public fodder in 2022 when his and Fiebig’s now exes, “GMA3” co-hosts Robach and T.J. Holmes, were first outed, and later ousted, for carrying on a romantic relationship behind the scenes. Though both couples were already separated and headed for divorce, the optics cost Holmes and Robach their jobs.

Shue and Fiebig found themselves bonding as each navigated divorce proceedings that had overnight become front page news. A year later, they were officially dating. The two reportedly gave Holmes and Robach their “blessing” when they got engaged in 2025, and the former co-hosts went on to marry privately last month, according to People.

These days find Shue spearheading The Forum, a grassroots initiative he founded to unite people from across the political spectrum by focusing on commonalities rather than differences, and turning that into legislative action. Nonetheless, he now knows to keep family front and center, especially when it comes to “building a foundation for your kids,” he told People. The serendipitous way he and Fiebig met and fell for each other remains a mystery — one he feels no compunction to solve.

“You don’t know how you meet the person who’s right for you,” Shue said. “It just happened.”
