A heartless Bronx man threw his family’s cat to its death, heaving it out of a high-rise building’s 15-story window, prosecutors said Tuesday.
Miguel Perez was upset that the family pet, a small black cat named Shadow, had scratched him on March 4, so he grabbed the feline and flung it out the window, the Bronx District Attorney’s Office said.
The cat died after it hit the pavement outside NYCHA’s Mitchell Houses in Mott Haven, officials said.
Perez, 32, was indicted Tuesday on charges of aggravated cruelty to animals and torturing and injuring animals. He’s expected back in court to answer the charges in July.
“We are supposed to love and care for our companion animals,” Bronx DA Darcel Clark said in a statement. “Allegedly, in a fit of rage, this defendant tossed the family’s cat out of his apartment window, causing the animal’s death. The abuse of animals will not be tolerated.”
