Do you have questions about a Costco Warehouse planning to locate at Kraemer Boulevard and Birch Street? It is currently the home of Beckman-Coulter, but in about three years they will be gone, buildings and all.
It is a major change to the property and many folks, especially those living nearby, have questions and concerns. Bring those questions and concerns to the NOP-Scoping Meeting Open House tonight, Oct.15, from 5 to 7 p.m. in Community Rooms A-B at the Brea Civic Center.
The NOP, or Notice of Preparation, is to gather comments regarding the scope and content of the EIR, or Environmental Impact Report, that is required to be prepared for the proposed project.
There will be posters and drawings on display, and Brea planning personnel and their consultants will be on hand to address and note your concerns.
“Staff and consultants will be available at the scoping meeting and throughout the NOP period to answer basic and procedural questions,” said Jason Killebrew, Brea’s assistant city manager.
Killebrew added that the city emailed notices to more than 170 recipients, and mailed approximately 80 notices to properties within 500 feet of the project site.
If you miss the open house, submit your comments and questions during the NOP 30-day period ending at 5:30 p.m. on Nov. 5.
Send them via email to cristaln@cityofbrea.gov. or mailed to Brea Planning Division, 1 Civic Center Circle, Brea 92821.
This proposed project has a long way to go before it reaches the Planning Commission for a vote. It would go to the City Council for a vote only if the project is appealed. We’ll see if that happens.
Something that will be decided soon by voters is which three of five candidates will be elected or re-elected to Brea’s city council.
Also, this Thursday at 6 p.m., is a candidates forum presented by the North Orange County League of Women Voters. Go to scoping meeting, then head down to the Brea City Council Chambers on the plaza level for the candidates forum.
The non-partisan League of Women Voters is again hosting the City Council candidates forum, sponsored by the Brea Community Pac. Usually there is one forum for council candidates and one for school district candidates. This year there are only two school board candidates, both in District 4, so rather than have a debate, that forum was cancelled.
The council candidates forum will be broadcast live and replayed on the City’s Cable Channel 3 daily at 8:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. until Nov. 1. Stream it at www.cityofbrea.net/BREAtv.
Forum attendees can submit questions on cards provided by the League members. League member and past president Jan Wagner will be the forum’s moderator, a duty she’s held many times in Brea.
Wagner said audience questions go to the Question Sorter, who will weed out duplicate questions and personal attacks. Each question will be asked of all five candidates, not just one or two.
For more information, especially from the Brea business community, check out the Brea Chamber’s Candidates Forum, 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Oct. 29, at the Gilead Retreat, 915 W. Imperial Highway, 2nd floor. It will be recorded and available on the Brea Chamber’s YouTube Channel.
The Chamber’s forum differs from the League’s forum because Chamber members may submit their questions in advance or live questions at the forum. Like the League’s forum, there’s no guarantee your question will be asked.
If, however, there’s something you are dying to ask a candidate or two, following the forum there will be a reception where you can do just that.
It is free to attend, but registration is required because space is limited. Go to www.BreaChamber.com and click on Events to register.
If you haven’t given much thought to the coming election, now is the time to do so.
