“Widow’s Bay” closed out the Emmy Awards on Monday, Sept. 14, with a win for best comedy series, which, with three acting Emmys, writing and directing awards, and a few more here and there, set a new record for the most Emmys won by a comedy series with 14.
The series, which only premiered in April, won best lead actor for Matthew Rhys and best supporting Emmys for Kate O’Flynn and Stephen Root.
Unlike comedy, where “Widow’s Bay” dominated the categories, the drama Emmys were spread around more. “The Pitt” won best drama while Noah Wylie won for lead actor in a drama. But seven of his co-stars nominated for supporting actress or actor went home empty-handed.
Instead, Allison Janney won outstanding supporting actress in a drama for “The Diplomat” while Tom Pelphrey won the supporting actor Emmy for drama for “Task.”
Rhea Seehorn won for actress in a drama for the sci-fi series “Pluribus.”
