Those who died while serving our country were honored Monday during Memorial Day ceremonies hosted across Orange County.

Among the communities holding events throughout the day to honor service and sacrifice was Fullerton, where volunteers placed flags at the gravesites of hundreds of those who had served.

Held among the thousands of flags, small and large, the ceremony featured words of remembrance for those who had died and thanks for the veterans who attended.

Now in its 72nd year, a Memorial Day remembrance at Harbor Lawn-Mt. Olive Memorial Park & Mortuary in Costa Mesa drew dozens of veterans and community members to pay tribute.

Along with speakers and the laying of wreaths in honor of various groups, there was a missing may flyover.
