Fromm canned dog food recalled over potential metal fragments

Fromm Family Foods is recalling two types of canned dog food because they might contain metal fragments.

The Wisconsin-based company on Aug. 21 said it was recalling 3,852 cases of Fromm Turkey Pâté Wet canned dog food and 1,973 cases of Fromm Diner Classics Milo’s Meatloaf Pâté Wet canned dog food “due to potential metal contamination.”

If dogs eat contaminated food they might experience symptoms such as choking, vomiting, loss of appetite, lethargy, or stomach discomfort, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

The company said it has had no reports of injuries or illness linked to this canned food, so far. The canned food costs about $3-$5 per can, depending on the ingredients, and up to $52 per case for 12 cans.

The FDA said metal of any size, especially sharp pieces, can lead to serious health issues in dogs, including lacerations in the mouth and gastrointestinal tract.

Consumers should check their pantries and stop feeding their dogs this product immediately, the agency said.

Recalled products were sold at neighborhood pet stores and online in the United States and Canada.

The cans contain 12.2 ounces and come with a long shelf life into 2029. Consumers should check those cans using the following numbers associated with each type:
