Hayden Panettiere most likely died after ingesting a single oxycodone pill laced with fentanyl, according to a new report.
While toxicology results are still pending, the lethal combination is law enforcement’s working theory, TMZ reported, citing sources close to the investigation.
The 36-year-old “Heroes” and “Nashville” star was found dead in a Greenville, South Carolina Airbnb on Aug. 16 by Zach Hickerson, the brother of her on-again, off-again boyfriend Brian Hickerson. The latter administered Narcan but to no avail.
The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration in South Carolina and Los Angeles are working alongside investigators in S.C. law enforcement, TMZ noted, and are homing in on Panettiere’s Los Angeles-based “longtime drug dealer.”
The outlet said the tainted oxycodone was just one of several black-market prescription drugs Panettiere had been buying, the last batch just before she flew to South Carolina. Investigators believe she took an oxycodone pill the morning she died, TMZ reported.
