A 44-year-old man was arrested after he leapt naked into the East River from the north tower of the Brooklyn Bridge, cops said Monday.
Galymzhan Abaildayev, 44, was charged with reckless endangerment, making graffiti, lewdness, criminal trespass and disorderly conduct following his caught-on-camera leap from the iconic span about 2:30 p.m. Sunday, said police.
Cellphone footage uploaded to social media shows police climbing the bridge’s main cables in an attempt to reach the man standing on the roughly 278-foot tower when he suddenly jumps while holding what appears to be a delivery bag.
On the tower, located on the Manhattan side of the bridge, police found a Kazakhstan flag, along with a blanket and bathrobe that had writing on them, officials said.
NYPD Harbor Patrol quickly fished Abaildayev out of the water and he was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where he’s expected to survive.
Abaildayev lives in the Midwood section of Brooklyn. His arraignment in Manhattan Criminal Court was pending Monday.
