The 53-year-old man faces an intoxication manslaughter following the fatal crash at 12:10 a.m. on eastbound LBJ Freeway near southbound Dallas North Tollway, Dallas police said.
Investigations determined the man struck a person standing outside a disabled vehicle being pulled onto a flatbed tow truck. Police said the man hit the disabled vehicle, partially drove up the flatbed and overturned. The victim was hit in the process, police said.
The person hit was taken to a hospital and later died. Their identity was not immediately released.
Police said the 53-year-old man was taken into custody at the scene and taken to a hospital for medical evaluation. He was later booked into the Dallas County jail.
