Man stabbed in back with syringe on Manhattan street in anti-Semitic hate crime

A man was stabbed in the back by a stranger with a syringe in Manhattan’s Diamond District in what is being investigated as an anti-Semitic hate crime, police said Thursday.

The 26-year-old victim, dressed in traditional Hasidic garb, was walking on W. 47th St. near Fifth Ave. when a woman started harassing him, speaking partly in Russian, about 5:50 p.m. Wednesday, cops said.

When the man turned and walked away, she came up behind him and stabbed him with what is believed to be a syringe, police said.

The victim was taken by medics to Bellevue Hospital to be evaluated. It was not clear if the syringe contained any liquid.

The attacker ran off and has not been caught.

The NYPD’s Hate Crime Task Force is investigating.
