An 8-year-old Celina boy reported missing Friday morning was found dead hours later in a pond near his neighborhood, the Celina Police Department said in a Facebook post.
The family of MJ Ashmead contacted police just before 9:30 a.m. after he went missing from their home in the Sutton Fields neighborhood, according to the department.
Celina police and firefighters searched the area with help from several North Texas agencies. The search included air support from the Texas Department of Public Safety, dive teams from the Collin County sheriff’s office and Lewisville Fire Department, K-9 units from the Frisco and Hickory Creek police departments, and a drone team from the Prosper Police Department. Prosper ISD police also assisted.
Just after noon, police told family members that MJ’s body had been found in a pond near Sutton Fields.
No foul play is suspected, police said, but the investigation is ongoing. The department said it would not release additional information at this time out of respect for the family.
