An off-duty NYPD detective was stabbed and wounded during an attempted robbery in the Bronx Friday, police said.
The detective was retrieving something from the trunk of his car parked on Rochembeau Ave., a quiet, tree-lined residential block near E. 206th St. in Norwood around 2 p.m., when two men crept up behind him and attacked, law enforcement sources said.
The victim was stabbed four times, sustaining wounds to his neck and torso, sources said.
Medics rushed the detective to Jacobi Hospital, where he’s expected to survive. Both Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch and Mayor Mamdani were en route to the hospital to visit him.
The suspects fled the scene empty handed on an e-bike, police sources said.
Felony assaults are up 6% in the Bronx’s 52nd Precinct, where the stabbing took place, with 739 incidents this year so far as compared to 694 during the same period in 2025, according to stats current as of Sunday.
That’s worse than the citywide increase of less than 1%, with 22,537 reported felony assaults in 2026 compared to 22,439 last year.
