Shirley MacLaine recorded a video introducing an upcoming screening of “Sweet Charity” in the Hamptons.
“Hi Southampton Playhouse,” the 92-year-old screen icon says in that promo. “Wish I could be with you, I would like to see ‘Sweet Charity’ again.”
The Tuesday screening includes a Q&A with Shelby Coleman, whose late husband, Cy Coleman, composed the music for director Bob Fosse’s 1969 movie starring MacLaine, John Marin, Ricardo Montalban and Sammy Davis Jr.

“Now while you’re watching it, remember how hard we worked — and between you and me, it didn’t do very well,” she joked.
Fosse’s film adaptation of his 1966 Broadway musical was a box office flop.
“So I hope you guys like it. Much love,” said MacLaine.
The film also failed to win any Academy Awards, though Coleman was nominated for the movie’s score.

MacLaine later won an Academy Award in 1984 for her work alongside Debra Winger and Jack Nicholson in the James L. Brooks film “Terms of Endearment.”
She was last known to have been living in Malibu, according to Hello! magazine. Realtor.com reported that MacLaine sold her 6,659-square-foot ranch-style New Mexico home in 2024.
“Sweet Charity” plays at the Southampton Playhouse at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 25. A poster advertising the film includes a sketch of a sultry looking 30-something Maclaine in a skintight dress.
“When she’s good, she’s very, very good,” it reads. “But when she’s bad… she’s great.”
