Donald Trump has reached the end of a road gridlocked by numerous appeals and must pay E. Jean Carroll $5 million for being found liable for sexually assaulting her after the U.S. Supreme Court on Monday rejected his appeal.
The nation’s highest court declined to take up Trump’s appeal of the May 2023 verdict returned by a Manhattan jury that found him liable for sexual abuse and defamation, court filings show.
The development comes more than three years since the verdict and eight since Carroll, 82, publicly accused Trump of sexually assaulting her inside a Midtown department store in the mid-1990s.
Trump is separately appealing the judgment finding him liable in Carroll’s original defamation suit and subsequent $83.3 million award. That matter has not yet made it to the Supreme Court.
Attorneys for Carroll and Trump did not immediately respond to requests seeking comment.
This developing story will be updated.
