Both suspects, one arrested on June 4 and the other on July 23, face capital murder charges, police said in a statement Monday.
As of Monday, they remain in the Tarrant County jail with a combined bail amount of $1.5 million, according to jail records.
On March 26, officers were dispatched about 1:30 a.m. to the 2100 block of East Abram Street, where they found an unresponsive man, Arlington police spokesman Sgt. Richard Coleman previously said.
The man, later identified as Malachi Daron Hayes, 20, died from multiple gunshot wounds at the hospital at 2:02 a.m., according to the Tarrant County medical examiner’s office.
According to Monday’s statement, surveillance footage obtained from nearby cameras showed Hayes walking up to a parked vehicle and presented an item to the driver. The driver then attempts to grab the item, according to the statement, and a fight begins before shots are fired at Hayes.
Hayes falls to the ground as he tries to flee while the driver continues firing shots before the vehicle leaves the scene.
Phone records recovered by police show that Hayes had arranged to sell or trade a handgun with a man he’d been messaging on a social media app. Hayes had agreed to meet the man outside the convenience store to make the transaction, the statement said.
The records and witness statements also placed the second suspect at the scene of the shooting and the address where the vehicle was later recovered.
Police believe the two suspects intended to rob Hayes.
