The man arrested in the killing of a Laguna Beach woman whose body was found in a hillside home earlier this week is her son, authorities said Saturday.
Safford Wolfson, 36, was arrested Thursday, July 23 on suspicion of homicide in the death of his 61-year-old mother, Angela Caprioli, according to the Laguna Beach Police Department.
On Saturday, they confirmed the two were mother and son, after initially saying only that they were relatives and that the killing seemed to involve a domestic issue.
Officers responded about 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 20 to a house on the 1300 block of Dunning Drive regarding a death investigation. When they arrived, they found Caprioli’s body inside the residence, police said.
The quiet street is lined with single-family homes overlooking the town. Some neighbors on Friday said they were unfamiliar with Wolfson. Others not home did not respond to written notes from a reporter.
Police initially identified Wolfson as a person of interest while detectives, assisted by the Orange County Crime Lab, investigated the circumstances surrounding Caprioli’s death. Authorities later announced his arrest.
Investigators have not publicly released Caprioli’s cause of death, how she was killed or what evidence led them to identify Wolfson as the suspect.
A LinkedIn profile under Wolfson’s name says he co-founded Kevin’s House LLC, a sober living and assisted adult care facility in Rancho Palos Verdes, with his mother in 2021. The profile says he served as its business manager and administrative assistant.
Among his previous jobs was a stint as a materials handler for the Orange County Register, leaving in 2015, the LinkedIn page states.
Social media accounts under Wolfson’s name feature numerous videos with poses in tight or revealing clothing. One profile biography describes Wolfson as a “trans girl,” while another account includes hashtags such as “#transgender” and “#mtf.”
A headshot of Wolfson from the LinkedIn page is also seen among the social media photos.
