A suspected drunk driver crashed on a Queens parkway early Sunday, overturning his car and killing the 23-year-old woman in his back seat, police said.
The driver was going west in the right lane of the Grand Central Parkway when he lost control under the Steinway St. overpass in Astoria about 4:10 a.m., cops said.
He crashed into a side barrier, then into a light pole as his gray Honda Accord flipped over, cops said. The impact threw his rear-seat passenger out of the car onto the roadway.
She suffered trauma to the head and body. Medics rushed her to Elmhurst Hospital but she could not be saved.
Police have not yet released the woman’s name.
The 34-year-old driver was taken into custody on suspicion of drunk driving. Charges against him were pending.
