A British woman was fatally shot by her dad in Texas last year after a “big argument” about President Trump, an inquest in the U.K. heard on Tuesday.
Lucy Harrison, 23, was shot dead by her dad, Kris Harrison, at his suburban Dallas home on Jan. 10, 2025. The Cheshire Coroner’s Court in England began investigating the shooting after a criminal case was not pursued by Texas authorities.
During a hearing on Tuesday, Sam Littler, the victim’s boyfriend, said he had traveled with her to Prosper, Texas to visit Kris and his family. He said that on the morning of the shooting, the father and daughter had argued about President Trump.
“Kris and Lucy ended up having quite a big argument which led to Lucy running upstairs and being upset,” Littler said.
Later that day, shortly before they were about to head to the airport, Littler said he heard a loud bang come from a bedroom that Kris and Lucy had gone into.
“I remember running into the room and Lucy was lying on the floor near the entrance to the bathroom and Kris was just screaming, just sort of nonsense,” Littler said at Tuesday’s hearing.
Kris Harrison did not attend the hearing but wrote a statement to the court claiming he’d had an alcohol relapse on the day of the shooting and drank a bottle of wine.
He added that a TV segment about gun crime prompted him to show his daughter his handgun, which he’d kept in a bedside cabinet.
“As I lifted the gun to show her I suddenly heard a loud bang. I did not understand what had happened. Lucy immediately fell,” the statement read.
The coroner is expected to deliver their conclusions in the matter on Wednesday.
