A man suspected of murder was arrested by Anaheim police after his girlfriend was found dead at a motel, Anaheim police said.

Jasmine Miranda, 38, of Anaheim, was found dead at the Kona Motel at 331 N. Brookhurst Street just before 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 18 when police arrived for a welfare check.

The room was supposed to be checked out of on Tuesday morning. When no one came to the office to check out, a motel employee went to look at the room where they found Miranda and called police, Sgt. Eric Anderson of the Anaheim Police Department said.

Miranda was alone in a motel room, suffering from “apparent trauma,” and pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Further information about how she died was not available.

In part through license plate readers, police identified a suspect and vehicle. Anaheim man Oscar Velasquez, 43, was arrested Wednesday night, Aug. 19, on suspicion of murder. Velasquez and Miranda were dating, police said.

He is being held in Orange County Jail ahead of an arraignment scheduled for Friday, Aug. 21, police said.
