The woman who fell to her death aboard a Carnival cruise ship near Catalina Island earlier this week was identified by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office as 24-year-old Briana Miller.

The FBI continued to investigate how Miller fell from a stateroom balcony on the ship.

Spokeswoman Laura Eimiller said agents were notified of the fall about 5 a.m. on Monday, April 27, and arrived at the ship near Catalina around 8 a.m.

A spokeswoman for Carnival confirmed the death earlier this week and said Miller landed on a deck below.

“The female guest was traveling with family who alerted the ship’s crew of the situation,” said Julie Leonardi, a spokesperson for the cruise line.

Miller’s city of residence was unclear.
