New Jersey influencer Ashlee Jenae asked ChatGPT questions related to ending her life before she died by suicide during a recent trip to Zanzibar with her fiancé, according to a report.

“Through witness statements and analysis of communication devices belonging to the deceased and her fiancé, we established that she had been experiencing mental distress,” local police chief Zuberi Chembera told the press, per Tanzanian news outlet the Citizen.

“SMS messages showed repeated complaints regarding her life circumstances,” he said, adding that other messages seemed like farewell texts.

What’s more, she queried ChatGPT back in March: “How much valium would kill me?” TMZ reported.

Jenae, born Ashly Robinson, took the trip back in April with Joe McCann to celebrate her 31st birthday. According to social media posts and photos, it appears he popped the question during the vacation. Shortly after their arrival, though, staff at the Zuri Hotel moved Jenae and McCann into separate villas, after the couple had an explosive fight, police said.

In a statement shared online, Robinson’s family said she was “found unconscious in her villa and rushed to a local hospital,” on April 9. She was pronounced dead a short time later.

According to police, Robinson used a hotel robe belt to hang herself from the clothing rail in her closet.

McCann, founder of the institutional crypto fund Asymmetric, was initially questioned after Robinson’s death, but he was never accused of any wrongdoing. He broke his silence on the tragedy last month with a lengthy post on X.

“There are no adequate words to describe the total devastation, emptiness, and shock I feel after losing my best friend, confidante and fiancé, Ashly Jenae Robinson,” he wrote. “As a father myself, I am also heartbroken for Ashly’s parents, Yolanda Endres and Harry Robinson.”

He added: “Devoted fans knew Ashly through her charismatic online persona Ashlee, but the person I loved was Ashly, a woman who embodied the virtues of compassion, empathy, kindness, generosity, and love.”

Jenae, a content creator and model, had more than 150,000 followers on Instagram. She was best known for documenting luxury travel and her fashion sense.
