Cops arrest man in fatal shooting of 36-year-old man outside Central Park in Harlem

Cops arrested a man who they say gunned down a 36-year-old man across the street from Central Park in Harlem last month, police said.

Antawn Ross, 32, was arrested Friday on charges of murder and criminal possession of a weapon in connection with the shooting death of Santiago Rafael Garcia De Jesus on March 31.

Ross and Garcia De Jesus around 10:20 p.m. got into a verbal argument that turned physical outside a building on W. 110th St. near Malcolm X Blvd. Ross then pulled a gun out of his fanny pack and blasted Garcia De Jesus in the left armpit, according to a criminal complaint and officials.

Medics rushed him to Mount Sinai Morningside, where he died.

It was unclear what sparked the argument.

Garcia De Jesus lived in Yonkers, cops said.

Ross lives in Hamilton Heights. He was ordered held without bail at his arraignment Saturday at Manhattan Criminal Court.

Ross has 13 prior arrests, including for assault, criminal contempt, imitation of a firearm and criminal possession of a weapon. His latest arrest was in August 2020 for criminal possession of a controlled substance.
