A 62-year-old man was killed when the driver of a 2017 Ram van pinned him against a box truck in the East Village before fleeing the scene on foot, cops said Thursday.
Wilson Compton was standing between the box truck and the van in the parking lane on St. Marks Place near First Ave. when the van’s driver suddenly accelerated around 5:39 p.m. on Sept. 15, police said.
The van struck the pedestrian and pinned him against the box truck, according to police. The driver then reversed, freeing the man, who suffered severe injuries to his lower extremities.
Medics rushed the victim to Bellevue Hospital, where he died.
Wilson lived in South Jamaica, Queens, cops said.
The van driver fled the scene on foot.
Lester Andrews, 51, was arrested the following day and charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in serious injury for the crash.
He pleaded not guilty at his arraignment in Manhattan Criminal Court on Sept. 17 and was released without bail, records show.
