A 40-year-old man was arrested Thursday for a triple shooting in the Bronx that left one man dead and two women wounded, cops said.
Render Burns was charged with murder, manslaughter, and criminal possession of a weapon for the deadly shooting that claimed the life of 43-year-old Curtis Quinones on Sept. 7, police said.
Quinones was shot in the head, a 52-year-old woman was grazed in her leg, and a 65-year-old woman was shot in the leg when the gunman opened fire outside a University Ave. food market near Marriam Ave. in Highbridge around 10:53 p.m., cops said.
All three were rushed to Lincoln Hospital, where Quinones lingered in critical condition before dying five days later. The wounded women were expected to survive.
A motive for the shooting was not immediately released.
A grand jury indicted Burns on murder charges before he was taken into custody, officials said. He was arraigned in Bronx Supreme Court after his arrest and ordered held without bail.
He has four prior arrests dating back to 2008, with charges including robbery, assault with a weapon, criminal possession of a weapon and criminal sale of marijuana, cops said.
The deadly triple shooting occurred during an unusually violent week in the Bronx’s 44th precinct, during which eight people were shot in only seven days. Quinones was the only fatal victim during that period.
Other victims included two men, aged 65 and 75, who were playing dominoes outside the bodega on the corner of E. 157th St. and Gerard Ave. in Grand Concourse when a gunman opened fire around 6:08 p.m. on Sept. 13, police said.
The older victim was struck in his right hand, while the younger man was hit in his right thigh. Medics rushed both men to Lincoln Hospital, where they’re expected to survive.
About a half mile away at 1:11 a.m. that same day, two people were shot when a gunman opened fire on a crowd partying outside an Exterior St. apartment building near E. 150th St., cops said.
A 20-year-old woman fleeing the violence was struck in the left leg as she ran, while a 19-year-old man was hit in his right shoulder. Both victims were treated at Lincoln Hospital and were expected to survive.
Shooting incidents in the 44th Precinct, where Quinones was killed, are up nearly 5%, with 22 this year as compared to 21 in 2025, according to NYPD stats current as of Sept. 27. However, the number of shooting victims has increased by 15%, with 32 wounded in 2026 as opposed to 28 last year.
That’s worse than the 13% decrease in citywide shooting victims, with only 593 people shot as compared to 683 in 2025.
