NYC garbage truck driver arrested for crash that killed Brooklyn woman

A city Department of Sanitation garbage truck driver was arrested for the deadly crash that killed 30-year-old Siohban Lynch in Brooklyn, cops said Wednesday.

Timothy McVey, 41, was charged with failure to yield to a pedestrian and failure to exercise due care — two misdemeanors — for the Oct. 28 collision, police said.

Lynch’s mother demanded the city employee face criminal charges after her daughter’s death.

“You can’t see somebody’s in the crosswalk? You don’t check and make sure that someone’s not crossing when the light changes and they go to cross?” said her mother, who wished not to be named. “He should have been arrested. Why didn’t they arrest him?”

The young woman was crossing Bay Parkway in Bath Beach when McVey, who was heading east on Cropsey Ave., attempted to turn right onto the parkway and slammed into her around 6:35 p.m., cops said.

“She was tiny. She was so petite. She was like 5 feet tall, 94 pounds, very thin, very frail, and she went flying,” said the victim’s mother. “It just ravaged her body. She was hemorrhaging from the inside.”

Medics rushed Lynch, who was thrown into the roadway by the impact, to NYU Langone Hospital, where she died. She lived in Brighton Beach.

“He’s devastated. We’re all devastated. We’re all completely devastated,” her mother said. “I’m never gonna get my daughter back.”

The grieving mom said her daughter was crossing with the light when she was struck.

“Police told me they saw that she was using the light,” she said. “She had the light, and the driver made a right turn onto Bay Parkway and hit her, and she went flying.”

“This is what we were told. She went flying several feet.”

McVey has worked for DSNY since 2022 and earned $53,187 last year, city records show.

His arraignment in Brooklyn Criminal Court was pending.
