A 33-year-old Queens woman was in custody Wednesday after she allegedly made threatening statements on a Grand Central-bound Metro-North train during the morning commute.
Witnesses aboard Train 1723 out of New Canaan told MTA police that the woman was acting erratically and appeared to be experiencing an emotional crisis as the train approached Grand Central’s Track 110 around 8:20 a.m.
One witness told police the woman declared, “This will be your last day on earth.”
When the woman then reached into her bag, a passenger shouted the word “Gun!” sources told the Daily News. Police said another passenger then pulled the emergency brake, bringing the commuter train to a halt about 100 yards short of the platform.
About 60 of the train’s 700 passengers fled the train onto the tracks, causing Metro-North officials to cut power to the third rail while suspending all train service on Grand Central Terminal’s lower level for a little more than 20 minutes.
No weapon was found at the the scene, and sources told the Daily News it’s not believed that the woman was armed.
An MTA spokesperson said the woman was taken into custody by MTA police shortly afterward. She’s expected to face a felony charge of making a terroristic threat, plus a misdemeanor charge of making a threat of mass harm.
